Two

When you become an us
the way that we did,
the “how we met” stories,
the “first kiss” stories,
the “when we knew” stories,
they stay with us.
Our beginning
relegated to a kind of
inside joke.
One that isn’t that funny,
even to us.

But this day?
This one I love to talk about.
The day I told you
Forever.

This time I knew better
what always meant.
This time I knew better
what work meant.
This time I knew better
what choice meant.
This time I knew better
what whole meant.

This time I knew better
that to become one,
you have to be two.

About Alise

Iā€™m a lot of things, but more than anything else, Iā€™m a woman in progress. Iā€™m finding that out more and more all the time. Knitting is just a series of knots. I hope as my tangled thoughts are put out there, they will weave together into something that adds a little bit of beauty to the world.
